About Travel Insurance and Terrorism
I was reading this post on Travel Insurance When I found this very interesting post on Does Your Travel Insurance Policy Cover Terrorism
It says there on the post that if you should ever plan on going on a trip abroad you should definitely consider getting a travel insurance. Well, especially in countries where terrorism is rampant or where terrorism is reportedly high. It’s the best time to check if your travel insurance policy is covering terrorism.
One has to be sensible about the whole issue. If your government advises against travel to a particular area or country there may not be any cover – but you need to ask yourself who would want to go under those circumstances anyway? There are a number of other conditions to check up on too. That’s why it’s important to read your policy. Before planning a holiday in any country that might be considered unsafe for any reason, we recommend that you check the Foreign Affairs office website first. If travel to a country against your government’s advice and despite listed warnings you may find your travel insurance will not compensate you if you encounter a problem because you will have put yourself at ‘unnecessary risk’. TFG Global offers a plan that will still cover you there. But it is wise to call your travel insurance company before setting off to ask whether you will be covered for your destination. Most travel insurance policies have exclusions for events like terrorist acts, revolution, war, riot and civil unrest. If you sustained injuries and lost your belongings in such a situation you may not be covered, although that is not always the case. But if your injury or loss was sustained in an unrelated event you could still be covered. Some trip cancellation and interruption policies will cover the cost of your trip if you have to cancel because of a terrorist event or warning, but not if there was a warning for that country before you purchased your trip cancellation plan. If you are purchasing travel insurance it is important to make sure the policy includes good medical coverage with repatriation coverage and check those policy contract details, especially as it relates to terrorism.
